Little boys want to be a lot of things when they grow-up, stock answers include Policeman, Firefighter, Astronaut, President. All admirable positions to be sure but not really that cool, well JFK was cool, the point is each of those professions carries a certain weight and prudishness, the need for a short and well-trimmed haircut applies to each of these jobs. I am going to jump ahead because I want to talk about the kids who want to race things when they got older. Shit leave your hair anyway you want, all you need to do is get somewhere first. Right now I am obsessed with vintage car racing and more specifically vintage rally car racing. Growing up in a small town surrounded by dirt roads it is easy to trace this fascination, I spent many after school hours sending my ’84 Subaru wagon into a Swedish flick on those high desert roads
This man Rauno Aaltonen is one of the godfathers of the sport credited with inventing heal-toe braking. Check the video for some nice driving and some classic sports commentary
Watching this next video really makes me yearn for the days of bad teeth, when the world was wide and so were the sports. The commentary is terrific, note the crack about the Russian needing more than a hammer and sickle to get the dent out after he tips his car.
