Being in an actual city for the first time in ages you forget that sidewalks have a primitive character a throwing stones way about them. Not the sidewalk it self but the way you carry across them, its a game of chicken, every single time, and when you flinch you move out of the way. The chiefs of the street never flinch.

Little boys want to be a lot of things when they grow-up, stock answers include Policeman, Firefighter, Astronaut, President. All admirable positions to be sure but not really that cool, well JFK was cool, the point is each of those professions carries a certain weight and prudishness, the need for a short and well-trimmed haircut applies to each of these jobs. I am going to jump ahead because I want to talk about the kids who want to race things when they got older. Shit leave your hair anyway you want, all you need to do is get somewhere first. Right now I am obsessed with vintage car racing and more specifically vintage rally car racing. Growing up in a small town surrounded by dirt roads it is easy to trace this fascination, I spent many after school hours sending my ’84 Subaru wagon into a Swedish flick on those high desert roads

This man Rauno Aaltonen is one of the godfathers of the sport credited with inventing heal-toe braking. Check the video for some nice driving and some classic sports commentary

Watching this next video really makes me yearn for the days of bad teeth, when the world was wide and so were the sports. The commentary is terrific, note the crack about the Russian needing more than a hammer and sickle to get the dent out after he tips his car.

One other thing I would like to share with you is this Team O’Neil Rally school. Who needs a beach when you could have this dream vacation.

Okay so to follow-up on the last post. After having that wonderful walking experience I decided to repeat that maneuver the following night. Here is how it went, drinks, meet Lance, whiskey, absinthe, rock show, weed,beer,rockshow,weed,beer,rock show, absinthe. At this point I was having a hell of a time, it was one of those out-of-body or more to the truth it was one of the seeing yourself from the outside but you are really deep inside, like you are looking at a window of yourself from with in your self kind of drunks. I made what I believe to be the correct decision to leave the bar on foot and travel that way home eschewing the normative transportation avenues available; bike, taxi, bus, metro, the thing is I wasn’t ready to sit down, no no, there was some energy to be burned off and by the time I made it to my half way point, a shell station mini mart I had simmered down enough to realize that the sweating stocky clerk nawing on his lip across the counter from me was far more fucked up than I was, if he was working an whacked out of his mind then at least I could make it the rest of the way home and I did. No lesson here folks just a good old-fashioned go nowhere story.

Lucy and I went to see Where the Wild Things Are today. Despite the mixed peer review I walked away feeling relieved, this was a movie that was able to process the universal flaws and shortcomings of our little humanity. In a way the film is Camus-ian take on the existential, that our being is lonely, empty, and long only sporadically dotted with moments of happiness. That this ability exists to decipher and appreciate is reason enough for life. We walked out of the movie with the ten other midday movie goers into a brightly light fall day and advanced home through a long walk eschewing the bus and drive. Thank you
